May 2007 - The International Commission for the Congo-Ubangi-Sangha Basin (CICOS) has received a €1.9 million grant to prepare a strategic action plan for the integrated water resources management of the Congo River Basin.
October 2012- The ONG PROTOS has received a € 1 million grant to finance the development of an institutional framework for the decentralization of water supply, sanitation, hygiene services in the Atacora-Donga region. This project includes capacity building of communes and the private sector and technical assistance offered to municipalities. The project is expected to help improves water supply, sanitation, hygiene services in the targeted region, and improve people’s health and living conditions.
December 2009 - the Executive Secretariat of the Sahara-Sahel Observatory (OSS) received a €1.2 million grant to finance the integrated and concerted water resources management of the aquifer systems of Iullemeden, Taoudeni/Tanezrouft and the Niger River. The objective of the project is to significantly improve the concerted and sustainable management of water resources of transboundary aquifer systems and the Niger River, thereby improving the living conditions and access to water by the 25 million inhabitants living in the project area.

March 2006 - The Volta Basin Technical Committee (VBTC) received a €165,000 grant through an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulics and Fisheries in Burkina Faso - for the creation of the Volta Basin Authority. This is the first project ever to be funded by the AWF. It is aimed at establishing an agreement for the creation of the Volta Basin Authority to ensure joint rational and judicious use of the water resources amongst riparian countries, foster transboundary cooperation and benefit sharing.

June 2007 - The Government of Botswana received a €1.2 million grant to support a project aimed at improving water control systems on an area of 27,574 hectares to improve water logged conditions arising from the characteristics of the predominant black cotton soil of the area. This will lead to increased cereal production as a result of improved water control infrastructure and agricultural water management.

Burkina Faso is the first country to benefit from a climate change focused grant (to the tune of EURO 838,000) by the African Water Facility (AWF), after AWF’s call for proposals launched in September 2014.
April 2008 - The Government of Burkina Faso received a €642,000 grant to conduct a feasibility study for the improvement of sanitation services in the peripheral areas of Ouagadougou where live the most underprivileged citizens, as a way to improve their health and hygiene conditions, and safeguarding the environment. The project will seek to attract investments to finance the sanitation infrastructure and services proposed.
April 2008 - The Government of Burkina Faso received a € 450,000 grant to strengthen the Government’s institutional capacity and performance for monitoring water resources and water use in the country and developing adequate regulation for the effective implementation of Burkina Faso's IWRM Plan. The IWRM is part of the Government’s plan to boost water security issues through improved management and development of its water resources.
May 2007 - The Government of Lesotho received a €400,000 grant to devise a strategic investment plan in rural water and sanitation as a way to boost the flow of investment in sub-sector. The plan is expected to be founded on a reliable database of needs, resources and systems for estimating unit and total costs of comprehensively defined components and aimed at meeting the water supply and sanitation targets set by the Millennium Development Goals and the National Vision 2020.
May 2007 - The Network for Water and Sanitation, Uganda (NETWAS-U) received a €450,000 grant to conduct education, sensitization activities to promote roof rainwater harvesting (RWH) to provide relief to the most water stressed parts of the country through the implementation of this low cost solution. The system will provide safe water to the households for a period that will extend beyond the dry spells with aim to secure water supply all year round.
