Every year on 22nd March, the world celebrates World Water Day, and we examine the realities and complexities surrounding water access. We also promote activities in the use and management of water and make necessary adjustment to deliver universal access to water and sanitation for people and our planet.

African Water Facility Approves a €4.9 million Grant for Drinking Water and Climate-Resilient WASH Services in Burkina Faso

The African Water Facility approved on 16 December 2022, a grant of €4.9 million for PHEPA–8P – Promotion of Hygiene, Drinking Water, Sanitation and Strengthening of the Resilience of the Population to Covid-19 and Climate Change in Rural Areas In Eight (8) Provinces in Burkina Faso.

The African Water Facility Approves a Grant to Improve Access to Water Sanitation and Hygiene Services and Build Climate Resilience in Burkina Faso

The African Water Facility (AWF) on October 3, 2022, approved a grant of EUR 1,549,710 to improve access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Services (WASH), build climate change resilience, and strengthen Covid-19 recovery efforts in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

In 2022, the Facility has approved four projects till date – Lake Chad Basin, Togo, Mali and now Burkina Faso – to improve water and basic sanitation services in countries, and mitigate the effects of climate change.

The African Water Facility Approves a Grant for Climate Resilience and COVID-19 Recovery in Mali

The African Water Facility has approved a grant of EUR1,650,798 to implement an urban project to strengthen climate resilience and improve COVID-19 recovery in Mali.

Under the Facility’s joint program with the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) and Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this project will mitigate the effects of climate change through sustainable and greener investments in water, sanitation and hygiene including integrated water resource management, and provide preventive measures against COVID-19 in 7 municipalities in Bamako, Mali.

La Banque africaine de développement a annoncé la nomination de Mtchera Johannes Chirwa au poste de nouveau coordonnateur de la Facilité africaine de l'eau, une initiative de préparation de projets et d'assistance technique hébergée au sein du Département du développement de l'eau et de l'assainissement de la Banque africaine de développement.

Soutenir le stockage de l'eau à usages multiples pour renforcer la résilience climatique au Mozambique

(en anglais seulement) Maputo, – The AWF announced on December 15 that is has offered a €3.4 million grant to the Government of Mozambique to conduct a feasibility study for the development of a climate adaptation project in the lower Limpopo region. This project will include building infrastructure to protect the Limpopo basin from floods and droughts and will increase food security by boosting agricultural production. Furthermore, the infrastructure to be built could lead to hydro-electric power production for the region.

(en anglais seulement), Tunisia - Tunis, Tunisia - The African Water Facility (AWF), an initiative of the African Ministers' Council on water, has attracted €1.2 billion of follow-on investments for water management projects pledged by donors. “This is a major achievement for AWF's 10th anniversary,” said Akissa Bahri, the Coordinator of the AWF. The announcement was made during the 14th Governing Council Meeting, held from November 28-29, 2014 in Tunis, Tunisia.
